Projected Timeline for this Process:
The projected timeline for this community planning process is January 2024 to late 2024. By
the end of this process, the priorities, needs, and future of Jacob Riis Houses as told by Riis
residents will be documented in a community plan, which will guide future investments.
Below is a graphic which details the proposed timeline of this process, as well as the subjects for each round of meetings.

Key Team Members of this Process:
The Jacob Riis Tenant Association (TA) is leading this process. The Jacob Riis TA Board has partnered with a range of consultants that have been selected to evaluate building conditions and environmental risks, provide Riis residents and NYCHA with options to move forward, and guide residents through this decision-making process. The TA Board interviewed and selected BFJ Planning to help facilitate the community planning process in Summer 2023, and selected specialized architecture and building consultants in the Fall of 2023. NYCHA will also participate every step of the way.
Breakdown of Each Stage of the Process:
The first round of meetings is scheduled for January 2024 through March 2024. These meetings will provide an overview of the general process and allow Riis residents to share which key building and property issues need to be investigated and addressed through this process.
The second round of meetings will be hosted in mid-2024; these meetings will allow the project team to share the results of building and site investigations with Riis residents, and begin identifying strategies and opportunities to address those issues. We will also consider the implications of maintaining the status quo.
The final round of meetings will be hosted late 2024 to discuss options and come to an agreement on the right path forward for the Riis community through a resident voting process. All explored options will be on the table, including the decision whether to join the PACT program and, if so, what actions will be taken towards improving and modernizing Riis houses through PACT.
Expected Outcomes of this Process:
After the planning process has been completed, and only if the PACT option has been chosen, the next step will involve selecting PACT partners who will follow the guidelines detailed in the community plan that Riis residents created together. NYCHA will not move forward with the PACT program without approval from residents.
Resident Involvement and Participation:
Riis residents will shape the final outcome of this process through participating in meetings and providing feedback. Specific dates for public meetings and other events can be found on the Meetings & Workshop Info page, which is linked below.
